Generative Engine Optimization: be visible when AI answers
More and more research no longer ends in a list of search results, but in a finished answer. If AI systems name your competitors for the questions that matter – but not you – you lose visibility before anyone even visits a website. We check whether your content can be found, understood and used as a source.
GEO combines strategy, content and web development. That’s exactly why AI consulting and technical development work on it together at Moltomedia.
How AI answers
Which provider can help us with digitalisation as a mid-sized company?

When rankings stay stable but fewer enquiries come in
Your SEO figures look decent. Yet organic visits or enquiries are falling.
Part of the research can now take place outside your website: an assistant compares providers, summarises services and already makes a recommendation before the user clicks on a link.
This creates two risks:
You are not mentioned, even though your offer fits the question.
You are categorised incorrectly, because outdated or unclear information carries more weight than your current content.
Classic SEO remains important. GEO adds a new question to it: Can a generative system not only find your content, but clearly understand it, verify it and use it in an answer?
What Generative Engine Optimization means
Generative Engine Optimization – GEO for short – prepares publicly available information so that AI systems can recognise and categorise a company as accurately as possible and consider it as a source. Three levels work together:
Findability
Is the system technically able to access the relevant page, and is the key content available as machine-readable text?
Clarity
Are services, target audiences, regions, products, and differentiators clearly enough defined to generate a definitive answer?
Verifiability
Is there verifiable evidence – on your own website and through independent sources – to support claims made about your business?
GEO is therefore neither a single piece of schema markup nor a copywriting discipline. It combines technology, information architecture, editorial clarity and external reputation.
How to tell whether you need to act
Test a few real customer questions in different systems. It becomes noticeable when:
competitors are regularly mentioned and your company is missing,
services, locations or target groups are described incorrectly,
important information only appears in images, downloads or dynamically loaded elements,
your service pages only answer questions after long introductions,
several pages contain contradictory information,
there are hardly any reliable mentions outside your website.
A single test is not proof. If the pattern repeats across several relevant questions and systems, a structured analysis is worthwhile.
The AI visibility analysis
The analysis is a self-contained initial assignment. We don’t change anything on your website at first – instead, we establish a reliable baseline.
1
Define relevant questions
Together, we determine which questions potential customers use when searching for a solution, provider, product or comparison. These questions form the basis of the investigation.
2
Check visibility and representation
We test selected questions in relevant systems and document whether and how your company appears, which sources are used and where incorrect or incomplete statements arise.
3
Analyse the website technically and in terms of content
Among other things, we check retrievability, rendering, page structure, structured data, unambiguous company information, question-and-answer passages, how up to date the content is, and evidence.
4
Compare competitors
Up to three relevant competitors are assessed using the same criteria. This shows where they are currently easier to understand or better substantiated.
5
Prioritise the roadmap
You receive concrete measures, sorted by expected impact, effort and dependencies. Quick wins are kept separate from topics that require longer-term editorial or external work.
What you get
The evaluation is yours. You can have it implemented by your team, your existing agency or Moltomedia.
A documented baseline for defined customer questions
A technical and content assessment of key page types
A comparison with selected competitors
A prioritised list of measures
Recommendations for measurement and ongoing monitoring
A results presentation for marketing, management and IT
What we look at
Technical accessibility
Relevant content must also be available to machine retrieval. This includes clean rendering, sensible crawler rules, unambiguous canonicals, language signals and consistent structured data.
Consistent company data
Name, locations, services, contact persons and other core data must be free of contradictions on your own website and in relevant directories.
Information architecture
Services, industries, regions, use cases and references need clear connections. A machine, just like a person, should understand what your company stands for and who the offer is intended for.
External signals
Expert articles, press, associations, references and reputable industry sources help systems distinguish self-description from independent assessment. This part can’t be forced in the short term and requires real substance.
Citable content
Important questions are answered clearly and directly. Claims are backed up with concrete evidence, figures, examples or sources. Long introductions are not mistaken for depth.
How we measure impact
There is no single official GEO metric. That's why we combine multiple signals:
Mentions and sources for a fixed set of relevant questions
Correct representation of brand, services and facts
Traffic from AI systems, where measurable
Visits from relevant crawlers in server data
Development of qualified enquiries and closed deals
The test questions, systems and measurement intervals are defined before implementation. This keeps the comparison traceable over time.
What GEO cannot achieve
No one can guarantee a mention in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or a Google AI response. Systems, models and sources are constantly changing. Furthermore, incorrect statements on third-party websites cannot always be corrected immediately.
We improve the conditions for being found, correctly understood and considered a credible source. We don’t sell guaranteed placements.

Our own starting point
We first applied the methodology to moltomedia.de. In the internal evaluation, the website rose from 23 to 68 out of 100 points after structured data, technical accessibility, metadata, and language signals, among other things, were improved.
This score is not a universal industry ranking, but an internal comparison based on the same audit methodology. It shows which technical and content fundamentals have measurably improved. External mentions, decision-making guides and regular specialist content remain longer-term objectives.
For us, scoring 100 points is neither the goal nor automatically sensible. We evaluate not only what is technically possible, but also what is actually relevant to our website and our target audiences. What matters most is therefore not a perfect score, but continuous improvement.
Thanks to the optimisations implemented, moltomedia.de is already outranking the average of comparable companies. And we're not stopping there: we continue to review and optimise our website on an ongoing basis, as the requirements of search engines, LLMs, and users are also constantly evolving.

GEO rarely fails because of the text – but rather in the template
Technology & Strategy from a Single Source
We find out where the real problem lies
At first glance, GEO looks like marketing, but it often fails in the template, during rendering, or due to an unclear data structure. Moltomedia has been combining web development, platforms, content, and IT strategy since 1995. This allows us to assess whether an issue needs an editorial, technical, or off-site resolution.
Complement rather than replacement
We work with your existing partners
We do not replace your existing SEO agency. Where a partner is already in place, we deliver actionable insights, coordinate interfaces and, if desired, take care of the technical implementation.

What is the difference between GEO and SEO?
SEO primarily aims at visibility in search results. GEO aims to ensure that generative systems understand content correctly and take it into account in their answers. The two disciplines overlap considerably; a solid technical and content-related SEO foundation remains a prerequisite.
